What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash doesn’t have to slow you down!

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries, typically following sports impacts, car accidents or even a fall.  The sudden movement back and forth of the neck and head can lead to pain, stiffness and even headaches up to days later.  Typically there may not be any pain or discomfort immediately following the injury, and the next morning the individual may begin to notice this discomfort.

How Our Milton Chiropractor’s Can Help

The good news? Chiropractic care for whiplash is a safe, effective and noninvasive way to help restore your body to its natural health!  With gentle movements, they can help improve mobility and reduce inflammation to relieve that neck pain and stiffness and help relax those muscles.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

In most cases, your initial appointment with your provider will consist of an assessment so they can get a better understanding of your injury, such as which muscles are contributing to the whiplash. They may also perform a neurological exam to rule out anything else, such as a concussion.  Treatment will then consist of joint mobilizations, manipulations, and soft tissue therapy to the affected areas to decrease the inflammation and increase proper mobility of the neck movements.  Your chiropractor might also provide you home exercises to help or refer you to supporting professionals like physiotherapists or massage therapists to maximize your recovery time.

Healing and Recovery After A Whiplash Injury

It’s normal to feel discouraged with this type of injury, but its important to remember that this is a common condition and most individuals make a full recovery in a short period of time.  It is also important to discuss any concerns with your heath care provider, and your likes or dislikes during treatment.  The sooner you come in for care following a whiplash injury, the better your chances are of a full and speedy recovery without any lingering pain.

Once you have regained full mobility and are back to your normal activities without any discomfort, our job is complete.
